3 Mulwala’s only 2 weeks away…

Scarecrow leaves nothing to chance in recreating the sounds and visual excitement that takes audiences on this whirlwind trip. The hits are all there and even Mr. Mellencamp himself has professed his pleasure at the bands musical accuracy when it comes to his songs and their performances. Not long now & we’ll be back at the Mulwala Ski Club, just over the border from Yarrawonga. Hope to see ya!

Thanks once again to all who joined us for our debut last weekend. We had a ball playing some favourite songs of ours and sensational US anthems! We loved it so much we can’t wait to do it all again next month at the Rosebud RSL! Gorgeous Anny will be front & centre once again, along with Gary & Ash singin’ some all time American classics. 3 On the banks of Lake Mulwala – Sat 4th August

Mulwala 2 Next month we’re heading off on our road trip to N.S.W., just over the border from Yarrawonga. We’ve got a couple of great sets lined up for you for the Mulwala Ski Club on Saturday the 4th of August. Hope you’ve already made your travel plans to join us?

If not, here’s a couple of ideas… taste local produce and wines at the Royal Mail Hotel in Mulwala, on the northern side of the border. For olive oil, travel over the weir to the Rich Glen Olive Estate in Yarrawonga.

The heritage-listed Byramine Homestead, built in 1842, is home to a brewery, winery and cellar door. You’ll discover more fascinating heritage in the Pioneer Museum. On both sides of the river are waterside accommodation options, from camping and caravanning to apartments and resorts.

2 John Mellencamp inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame

Indiana rock star John Mellencamp performs “Jack & Diane” as part of Thursday’s June 14th Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Nora Guthrie introduced Mellencamp at New York City’s Marriott Marquis. Provided by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Nora Guthrie, daughter of iconic troubadour Woody Guthrie, praised John Mellencamp’s tenacious commitment to his musical identity during Thursday’s Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony.

Seymour, Ind., native Mellencamp entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame with six fellow inductees: Kool & the Gang, Alan Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Bill Anderson, Allee Willis and Steve Dorff.

Guthrie introduced Mellencamp, the no-nonsense yet good-timing rock star who outlasted comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger to establish a respected career.

“John has written hundreds of meaningful, insightful and powerful songs that ripple with feelings that we all know — songs that comprise one of the most singular and important bodies of work in music,” Guthrie said. “And tonight we recognize that John Mellencamp, persistently and even doggedly anchored to his own unique identity and his own unique talent, now holds his own among the great songwriters.”

Mellencamp performed “Jack & Diane” and “Longest Days” for the audience gathered at New York City’s Marriott Marquis.

According to AmericanSongwriter.com, Mellencamp told an anecdote about his late grandmother that typically accompanies his live renditions of “Longest Days.”

Nicknamed “Buddy” by his nearly 100-year-old grandmother, Mellencamp said he was surprised in his mid-40s when she prayed to God about the two of them being ready to come home. “I’m not ready, Grandma. Buddy has more sinnin’ he plans on doing,” Mellencamp recalled Thursday. She replied, “Buddy, you’re going to find out that life is short, even in its longest days.”

Mellencamp, a 2008 inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, co-founded Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and Neil Young in 1985. The 66-year-old is a Grammy Award winner (1983 for “Hurts So Good”) and the recipient of the Billboard Century Award (2001), Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s Woody Guthrie Award (2003), Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement for Songwriting (2010) and John Steinbeck Award (2012).
